Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the Apple three-prong AC wall plug adapters designed primarily for use in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Hong Kong may break and create a risk of electrical shock if exposed metal parts are touched. This wall plug adapter shipped from 2003 to 2010 with Mac and certain iOS devices, and was also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit.

These wall plug adapters shipped from 2003 to 2015 with Mac and certain iOS devices, and were also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit.

This recall involves three-prong AC wall plug adapters included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit sold before February 2015. The kits contain three-prong and two-prong AC wall plug adapters that fit different electrical outlets worldwide. The recalled adapters were made for use primarily in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Hong Kong and were also sold with Mac computers and iOS devices. The recalled three-prong AC wall plug adapters are white with no letters on the inside slot where it attaches to an Apple power adapter. Redesigned adapters are white with gray on the inside portion that attaches to the power adapter.

Apple has received six reports from other countries of wall plug adapters breaking and consumers receiving shocks, including two reports of consumers who were medically evaluated and released without need for further medical treatment. No reports of incidents or injuries were reported by U.S. consumers.

This recall involves Apple World Travel Adapter Kits and wall plug adapters. The kits contain three-prong and two-prong AC wall plug adapters that fit different electrical outlets worldwide. The recalled adapters were made for use in Australia/New Zealand/Argentina, Brazil, Continental Europe and Korea and were also sold with Mac computers and iOS devices. The wall plug adapters are white plastic with the following characteristics:

Recalled wall plug adapters have either four or five letters or numbers, or no markings on the inside slot where the wall plug adapter attaches to the main power adapter. Redesigned adapters have a three-letter regional code in the slot (EUR, ARG, KOR, AUS or BRA).

Apple has received 12 reports of wall plug adapters breaking and consumers receiving shocks overseas, including three reports of consumers who were medically evaluated and released. No reports of incidents or injuries were reported by U.S. consumers.

Tech giant Apple has instigated a massive international recall of power point adapters across its range of portable devices after a small number were found to have broken, causing risk of electric shock.

The affected Apple adapters were shipped with MacBooks and iPads, and older models of iPhone and iPod, between 2003 and 2015, including in Australia and New Zealand. Also included in the recall are adapters purchased in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit, which includes wall adaptors for multiple regions.

The affected adapters attach directly to a power brick to connect devices to the wall. New MacBooks also come with an adapter on a long cord, which is not affected by this recall. The recall does not affect smaller USB power adapters which ship with the latest models if iPhone and iPod.

Some of the redesigned adapters are square in shape; these are understood to not be affected by the recall. If your adapter is round, as the majority of them are, you can determine whether it's affected by removing it from the power brick and checking the underside.

The plug adapters were designed primarily for use in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Hong Kong but given the proximity of Ireland to the UK, it's very likely that some of these are currently in use in Ireland.

Apple have announced a recall on any AC wall plug adapter sold from 2003 onward. These adapters have been used with iPhone, iPad, iPod and MacBook chargers since 2003. The following criteria must be met in order to claim a replacement wall adapter:

If you have a wall adapter that meets the above criteria, then you are eligible to claim a replacement. To do this, simply bring the recalled adapter into us and we will replace it. If you require multiple (in excess of 20) to be replaced, simply contact us and we will arrange a special order for you.

If you have been issued one of the affected Apple wall adapters as an AU employee, you can contact your local IT support until the end of April 2016 to exchange the defective wall plug adapter for a new one.
